Europe, primarily Switzerland, France, and Germany.

General Characteristics:

Pear has pale pink -brown color and fine even texture. Occasional curly figure. Planed surfaces have a silky sheen.

Uses:

Furniture, musical instruments, rulers, printing blocks, tool handles, decorative turnings.
