General Characteristics:

Rich, violet-brown heartwood with black veining. Cream-colored sapwood. Very heavy, hard, strong and brittle.

Uses:

Small size of tree and scarcity of supply generally restricts most uses to inlays, marquetry, turned articles, and sculpture. Some veneer is made.
